Transportation

Ontario’s forest sector relies on safe, productive and efficient movement of forest products to transport over 11 million cubic metres of timber a year.

If you spend time on any of Ontario’s major highways or logging roads, you are likely to see forest products moving from forests to mills and on to their final destinations.

Ontario has over 300,000km of forest access roads which are used by all Ontarians.

These roads provide access not just to forests, but to Indigenous communities, hunting and fishing locations, mining sites, energy and utility transmission corridors, as well as forestry operations.

Ontario’s forest sector builds and maintains this vast off-highway road network on behalf of all Ontarians.

While forest access roads are generally open to all members of the public to use, special considerations are required when using them.
